Equality Makes World's Beauty.

"Gender equality" attempts to create true equality between men and women by profoundly embedding the concept of human rights in society's soil. For the first time in human history, equality between men and women has become a universal value, and the social structure has been constructed to realize that concept. However this concept is not at a good level especially in Asian countries. Moreover Sexism is become a social issue and we shoul talk about this too when we talking about gender equality. This mostly affect on women or turned into women later than men.Not only for elder people but also with school aged students have these matters and as my point of view it is happen because the background of their familes.

The gender equality movement began with the first wave of feminism which occurred in the nineteenth century and early twentieth century.
  • This movement aimed towards over turning officially mandated gender inequalities. Can anyone guess the major one?
  • The second wave of feminism lasted from the 1960's- 1980's(late).
  • This wave however focused on the social issues such as reproductive rights (abortion) and workplace rights
  • The third wave is still occurring. It has been a response in the backlash arising from the second wave. This wave is purely just promoting the ideas of diversity & change

Why Gender Equality is important?

Gender equality is inherently linked to sustainable development and is essential for the realization of human rights for all.Gender inequality is affects everyone in the society. If we take children, some countries still have problems to access to education for girls, especially in Asian countries and luckly in my country most time both girls and boys deserve free education.Reaserchers say that countries with greater gender equalities are more connected, people are healthy and more wellbieng. As I see countries like these live more happily. When gender inequality increases violance also increase.

How to achieve Gender Equality ?

If we are allowed to talk each other (Girls and Boys) and also allow to consider girls’ or womens’s ideas we can reduce the gap between two genders. And most important thing I see as a Student and especially educated from Sri Lankan government school, school syllabus should updated with lessons with more gender sensitive and also about sexual life. Moreover I think in political side both men and women should take part equally. Not only in politics, but also in other social activities or any other work both men and womens’ ideas should consider equally. We should stop violence to achive gender equality and allow all genders to work together.I think this last point too can start from educational level(School).

Sexism

According to Wikipedia Sexism is prejudice or discrimination based on one's sex or gender. Sexism can affect anyone, but it primarily affects women and girls. It has been linked to stereotypes and gender roles, and may include the belief that one sex or gender is intrinsically superior to another. Extreme sexism may foster sexual harassment, rape, and other forms of sexual violence. This is a societal concern not just because of the disparities in rights and advantages between men and women, but also because it encourages women and men to act in accordance with ancestral roles.
